Established in 1984 and executed as project by FAO, and funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development (NORAD), this project was formerly called Regional fish trade information and advisory services for processing and marketing information for Africa. It becomes, following a response to a request made by the Advisory and the Coordination committee and a recommendation made by a consultation of legal Experts for the Director General of FAO, the Intergovernmental Organization for Marketing Information and Cooperation Services for Fishery Products in Africa, INFOPÊCHE at the conferences of plenipotentiaries held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from 12 th to 13 th December. Since 2004, INFOPÊCHE established as a project funded by the former donor The Norwegian Kingdom; a sub–Unit called INFOSA covering SADC’S region (Southern Africa Development Community).This Unit is located in Windhoek, NAMIBIA. 

INFOPÊCHE covers 29 African countries of which 13 by its Sub-unit -INFOSA.
INFOPÊCHE : Angola, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Gabon, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Congo,  the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Mauritania, Namibia,  Senegal and  Togo.
INFOSA: Botswana, RDC, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

INFOPÊCHE is part of the global Fish Info Network for Marketing Information and Cooperation Services for Fishery Products (FIN).
Missions
The Missions of INFOPÊCHE are:
  • (a) provide information on the market of fishery products, particularly the outlet and the supply outlook within and outside of Africa;
  • (b) give opinion upon technical  innovation, specification to  be applied to the products, the processing method, the quality standards complied with  the market requirement;
  • (c) help to investigate for new products and promote less consumed species ;
  • (d) train the staff of the administration, the institutions and fishery industries on trade techniques.
  • Objectives
    The Objectives of INFOPÊCHE are:
  • (a) contribute to the development and modernization of fisheries sector in Africa;
  • (b) contribute to more balanced supplies of fishery products to the contracting parties;
  • (c) make the use of export opportunity within and outside Africa and ;
  • (d) promote  technical and economic cooperation among the contracting parties.
